Biography
Zach Morales is originally from Southeast Los Angeles. He earned his bachelor's degree in Sociology and Urban Studies from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and went on to study U.S. history and Latina/o/x Studies at the University of Michigan, earning a doctorate in American Culture.
Zach previously served as an academic advisor at Wayne State’s Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies. He was responsible for outreach, recruitment, and retention for their Learning Community, which won Learning Community and Peer Mentors of the Year Awards.
Currently, Zach is the Program Director of Wayne State's Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program, funded by Federal TRIO. The program prepares and assists eligible students as they apply to doctoral (PhD) programs. He is also Wayne State’s site leader for Michigan’s Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (MI-LSAMP), a program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) that aims to increase the number of historically underrepresented students in STEM disciplines.
Zach’s research interests include the best practices of student success, U.S. History, Latinx Studies, and Media and Cultural Studies.
